Capadócia (Cappadocia) - voo de balão (ballon flight)

Uma viagem à Turquia tem que incluir um voo de balão na Capadócia!

É um passeio imperdível!

O voo de balão na Capadócia começou no início dos anos 90, com um casal australiano. Eles perceberam que era o local perfeito para se sobrevoar, com um cenário fantástico em volta. Então abriram uma empresa de balões na região.

Hoje em dia há mais de 20 empresas de balões! Todas elas têm preços semelhantes!

Assim é difícil escolher! Nós escolhemos a Sultan Balloons. Tinha lido vários relatos de pessoas que tinham gostado desta empresa.

O voo não é barato. O preço na companhia é de 150eur em dinheiro (160eur em cartão). Eu comprei os voos ao guia, contactei-o por e-mail e paguei-lhe a ele, foi significativamente mais barato: 115eur (Falo sobre ele na viagem à Capadócia).

A trip to Turkey must include a balloon flight in Cappadocia!

It is wonderful!

The balloon flightS &  in Cappadocia began in the early 90s with an Australian couple. They realized it was the perfect place to fly, with a fantastic scenery around. Then they opened a balloon company in the region.

Today there are more than 20 balloon companies with similar prices!

So it's hard to choose! We chose the Sultan Balloons. I had read several reports of people who had enjoyed this company.

The flight is not cheap. The price in the company is 150eur in cash (160eur in credit card). I bought the flights to the guide, I contacted him by email and paid to him, it was significantly cheaper: 115EUR (I’ll talk about it on the next post - Cappadocia).

Escolhemos fazer o voo logo na primeira madrugada, porque caso as condições meteorológicas não permitissem que se realizasse nesse dia voaríamos no dia seguinte.

A companhia (Sultan Balloons) ligou para o hotel a avisar que nos apanhavam às 4h30.

We choose to fly on the first morning in Cappadocia, because if the weather conditions do not allow the flight we had the opportunity to fly the following day (if the wether conditions changed).

The company (Sultan Balloons) called the hotel to warn that they would pick us up at 4.30am.

Então, às 4h30 apanhou-nos uma carrinha da empresa. É muito cedo e está bem escuro e frio!! Apesar de durante o dia estar bastante calor (30ºC) de manhã estão menos de 10º! É preciso levar um bom casaco, eu só levava uma t-shirt, um casaco de ganga e um lenço e passei frio!!!

Passados 15min chegamos ao local onde o balão parte. O balão ainda estava fechado e estava mesmo muito frio! Entretanto, enquanto estavam a encher o balão, estava uma mesa com chá, café e biscoitos para irmos tomando o pequeno almoço, já que à hora que saímos ainda não havia pequeno almoço no hotel.

A fotografia acima mostra o balão a ser enchido (era de outra companhia). Na realidade estava bem escuro, mas as fotografias ficaram bem claras devido ao "modo noite”.

Then, at 4:30 am a company van picked us. It is too early and was quite dark and cold !! Although during the day the temperatures were very high (30 degrees celsius) in the morning they were low, less than 10 degrees! You need to have a good jacket, I just wore a T-shirt, denim jacket and a scarf and I ran cold !!!

After 15 minutes we reached the place where the balloon kicks off. The balloon was still closed and it was really cold! However, while they were filling the balloon, there was a table with tea, coffee and biscuits for us to take breakfast because when we left the hotel there was still no breakfast.

The photo above shows the balloon being filled ((it was from another company). Actually it was pretty dark, but the photographs showed clear due to "night mode".

O nosso voo ia cheio, com 16 pessoas mais o piloto. À medida que os balões sobem forma-se uma imagem linda, cheia de balões no céu e aos poucos o sol começa a nascer e temos uma vista magnífica do nascer do sol.

Our flight was full, with 16 people plus the pilot. Gradually a wonderful picture grows, the sky full of balloons and as the sun begins to rise we have a magnificent view of the sunrise.

O voo foi super tranquilo, não dá para ter medo, é tudo tão suave que mal se nota!

O voo dura cerca de 1hora. Nós ficamos na parte da frente da cesta (ao lado do piloto), o que penso que é melhor para tirar fotografias.

O balão desce e sobre várias vezes. Quando desce passa muito próximo de árvores e vai mesmo aos vales (foto abaixo).

The flight was super quiet, you can not be afraid, everything is so smooth that you do not realize you are flying.

The flight takes about 1 hour. We stayed in the front of the basket (next to the pilot), what I think is best place for taking pictures.

The balloon went up and down several times. When it goes down it passes close to trees and goes to the valleys (photo below).

A ida aos vales foi das últimas partes do nosso voo. Estivemos mesmo no vale do amor, juntamente com muitos outros balões. Depois, voltamos a subir, bem alto.

Going to the valleys was the last part of our flight. We were even in the Love Valley, along with many other balloons. Then we came back to the sky.

E este foi o momento da aterragem. Com uma paisagem maravilhosa, cheia de balões coloridos a aterrarem também.

A empresa coloca uma mesa abre um champanhe para comemorar e oferece-nos um diploma de voo.

A carrinha que nos levou até ao local de voo leva-nos também até ao hotel. Chegamos por volta das 7h.

And this was our landing, with a wonderful landscape, full of colorful balloons.

The company set a table and opened a champagne bottle to celebrate. They also  offered us a flight diploma.

The van that took us to the flying place also took us back to the hotel. We arrived around 7am.

Our last day in Istanbul!

Começamos por ir ao Palácio Dolmahbaçe bem cedo por causa das filas.

Fomos de taxi e custou 20TL a viagem.

We started our day early in Dolmahbaçe Palace (because of the queues).

We went by taxi and the price was 20TL.

O palácio está localizado nas margens do Bósforo, no lado Europeu, é um dos edifícios mais bonitos, tanto a nível externo como interno.

O palácio é simplesmente magnífico!Foi dos palácios mais bonitos que visitei, com uma riqueza enorme.

Foi construido pelo sultão Abdulmecid em 1856, quando o império Otomano estava em declínio. Passou a ser a residência dos Sultões em vez do Palácio Topkapi.

O palácio tem 3 níveis, com 285 quartos e 43 salas e a sua fachada estende-se por 600m ao longo do Bósforo.

Todo o interior do palácio é belíssimo e impressionante, com uma decoração muito rica com imensos detalhes em ouro, pinturas fantásticas, tapetes de seda, lustres de cristal.

O primeiro quarto a ser visitado é lindo! A escadaria de cristal volta a deslumbrar, tal como a sala a seguir. O último a ser visitado é o mais impressionante, é um grande salão de festas com mais de 2000 metros quadrados, com uma cúpula de 36metros de altura e com um lustre enorme, que pesa mais de 4 toneladas.

Todos os relógios do palácio foram parados no momento da morte de Kemal Ataturk em 1938 (9h05), o líder da república Turca que residia no palácio quando visitava Istambul.

The palace is on the Bosphorus strait, on the European side and it is one of the most beautiful buildings.

The palace is simply magnificent! It was one of the most beautiful palaces I’ve ever visited. It is very rich.

It was built by Sultan Abdulmecid in 1856, when the Ottoman Empire was in decline. It became the residence of the Sultans instead of Topkapi Palace.

The palace has three levels, with 285 bedrooms and 43 rooms and its facade stretches for 600m along the Bosphorus.

The entire interior of the palace is beautiful and impressive, very richly decorated with huge gold accents, fantastic paintings, silk carpets and crystal chandeliers.

The first room to be visited was stunning! The crystal staircase was also stunning, as the next room. The last room to be visited was the most impressive room, a large ballroom with over 2000 square meters with a 36metros dome height and with a huge chandelier, which weighs over 4 tons.

All the clocks of the palace were stopped at the time of Kemal Ataturk’s death in 1938 (9:05 a.m.), the Turkish Republic leader who lived in the palace when he visited Istanbul.

- O palácio fecha às 2as e 5as feiras. O horário é das 9h às 16h.

- O preço do bilhete para o palácio é de 30TL e para o harém de 20TL, o preço para os dois é de 40TL. Esta é a única atração que aceita cartão de estudante (sem ser turco) - tem é que ser o cartão internacional de estudante e o preço é de 5TL.

- A visita é guiada. Faz-se uma fila à porta do palácio e os senhores agrupam as pessoas que seguem com um guia. A única coisa má é o guia, que é muito rápido, não nos dá grande tempo de apreciar a maravilha do palácio! Ele corre entre salas e só quem está perto dele é que ouve o que ele tem para dizer.

- A visita ao palácio é rapidinha (cerca de 40min - é tudo a correr), mas desde que compramos os bilhetes até que saímos duramos perto de 2horas. Os jardins também estão muito bem cuidados!

Infelizmente não compramos o bilhete do harém, mas ficamos com pena porque devia estar muito bem cuidado!

- Infelizmente não é possível tirar fotografias ao seu interior.

- The Palace closes on Monday and Thursday. Visit times are from 9 am to 16 pm.

- The ticket price to the palace is 30TL and 20TL for the harem, the price for both is 40TL. This is the only attraction that accepts student card - the International Student Identity Card and the price is only 5TL.

- The visit is guided. People stand up in a queue at the palace’s door and they group the tourists with a guide. The only bad thing is that the guide, which is very fast and doesn’t give us enough time to enjoy the palace! He runs between rooms and only those who are close to him can hear what he says.

- The visit to the palace is quick (about 40min), but since we bought the tickets until we left lasted nearly 2hours. The gardens are also wonderful!

Unfortunately we didn’t buy the harem’s ticket, which was a pity!

- Unfortunately it is not possible to take pictures inside the Palace.

Seguimos para a praça Taksim a pé! Uffa! Cansativo... Os mapas não têm inclinação!

Uma praça enorme, é o centro da actividade da zona moderna, do bairro de Beyoglu.

Taksim significa o centro de distribuição de água e desde o séc XVIII era onde a água vinda da floresta de Belgrade era distribuída para a cidade moderna.

À primeira vista chama a atenção o Monumento da Independência no centro, que celebra Ataturk, o fundador da república turca.

Está cheia de gente e de barraquinhas com comida.

A partir daqui podemos começar a andar na rua Istiklal Caddesi, uma excelente área de compras e onde se encontram os bares à noite.

We went to Taksim square by foot! Uffa! It was tiring ... the maps have no inclination!

A huge square is the center of activity of the modern area of the Beyoglu district.

Taksim means the water distribution center and since the eighteenth century it was from this location that the water from the Belgrade Forest was distributed to the modern city.

At first glance draws attention the Independence Monument in the center, celebrating Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish republic.

It is full of people.

From here we walked a little along the street Istiklal Caddesi, a great shopping area and where you can find great bars at night.

Estivemos pela praça Taksim um pouco e seguimos novamente para Sultanahmet onde almoçamos.

Almoçamos no Palmiye Cafe &Restaurant.

Foi o menos bom daquela zona, mas vale pela vista! Tem uma vista bonita para a Haghia Sofia e para a Mesquita Azul (fotos acima).

We went back to Sultanahmet where we had lunch at Palmiye Cafe & Restaurant.

It was worth for the view! It has a beautiful view of the Haghia Sophia and the Blue Mosque (above pictures).

Depois de almoço seguimos para o hotel e depois para o aeroporto para irmos para a Capadócia.

After lunch we went to the hotel and then to the airport to go to Cappadocia.

Voamos de Istambul para Nevsehir depois das 17h30. O voo dura pouco mais de 1h. Fomos de taxi para o hotel, que custou 80TL (o mesmo que o shuttle 20TL por pessoa) - como já disse antes nas informações sobre a viagem.

O nosso hotel era mesmo junto à mesquita, o que nos acordou várias vezes devido à chamada para a oração nos altifalantes.

Às 4h acordamos porque tínhamos voo de balão às 4h30.

We flew from Istanbul to Nevsehir at 17.30pm. The flight lasts just over 1h. We went by taxi to the hotel, which cost 80TL (the same as the shuttle 20TL per person).

Our hotel was right next to the mosque, which woke us up several times because of the speakers that call to prayer.

We woke up at 4am because we had balloon flight at 4:30am.

Istambul (Istanbul) - Cruzeiro no Bósforo (Bosphorus cruise), Mesquita Nova (New Mosque), Grand Bazaar e Praça Sultahnamet à noite (Sultahnamet square at night)

Fazer um cruzeiro no estreito do Bósforo é das maiores atracções turísticas de Istambul.

O estreito do Bósforo é o estreito que liga o mar de Mármara ao mar Negro. A parte velha da cidade de Istambul situa-se virada para o mar de Mármara e para o estreito do Bósforo.

Há imensas companhias que realizam os cruzeiros, embora todas elas sejam mais caras que a companhia oficial Turca - Sehir Hatlari.  Foi nessa que fizemos o cruzeiro.

Há duas opções - ou o cruzeiro completo, que dura cerca de 5/6h e que vai ao longo do Bósforo, quase até ao Mar Negro, ou o curto que apenas anda em frente à cidade de Istambul e dá a volta na 2ª ponte (Ponte Fatih Sultão Mehmet) e demora cerca de 2h. Nós optamos pelo curto.

Partiu às 14h30 de Eminonu, junto à ponte Galata, e só fez uma paragem para entrarem mais passageiros em Ortakoy.

A Bosphorus cruise is one of the greatest tourist attractions in Istanbul.

The Bosphorus Strait connects the Sea of Marmara with the Black Sea. The old town of Istanbul is facing the Sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus Strait.

There are lots of companies that perform cruises, although all of them are more expensive than the official Turkish company - Sehir Hatlari. We chose this company.

There are two options - the full cruise, which lasts about 5 / 6 hours and goes along the Bosphorus, almost to the Black Sea, or the short cruise, which goes through the front of the city of Istanbul and comes back on the 2nd bridge (Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge) - it takes about 2 hours. We opted for the short cruise.

It left at 14:30 in Eminonu, near the Galata Bridge, and only one stopped once to enter more passengers in Ortakoy.

Quando o cruzeiro terminou fomos até à Mesquita Nova (vista para a ponte e torre Galata).

After the cruise we went to the New Mosque (overlooking the bridge and Galata tower).

Situada no final da ponte Galata, é uma das Mesquitas mais proeminentes da cidade. 

Foi começada a construir em 1597 por Safiye, mãe de Mehmet III mas a construção parou quando o Sultão morreu, perdendo a sua mãe os poderes.

Foi concluída a mesquita depois de 1663, quando a mãe do Sultão Mehmet IV pegou no projecto.

Teve anteriormente um hospital, uma escola e banhos públicos.

At the end of the Galata Bridge the New Mosque is one of the most prominent mosques in the city.

Its construction started in 1597 by Safiye, Mehmet III’s mother but the construction stopped when the Sultan died. His mother lost her powers.

It was completed after 1663, when the mother of Sultan Mehmet IV took the project.

It had formerly a hospital, a school and public baths.

Tem 5 portas de entrada, uma delas aberta para o pátio central interior. A Mesquita tem 2 minaretes e a sua cúpula maior tem 36m de altura e 17,5m de diâmetro.

O seu interior é lindíssimo, com mosaicos turquesa brancos e azuis com motivos florais de Iznik.

It has 5 entrance doors, one open to the interior central courtyard. 

The mosque has two minarets and its largest dome is 36m high and 17,5m diameter.

The interior is beautiful, with white and blue turquoise tiles with floral motifs of Iznik.

- Tem que se entrar descalço e as mulheres com o cabelo e os ombros tapados.

Subimos até ao Grand Bazaar, por ruas cheias de gente e mercados locais.

We climbed up to the Grand Bazaar through crowded streets and local markets.

É um dos maiores e mais antigos mercados cobertos do mundo. Está situado em Eminonu e é um autêntico labirinto com mais de 60 ruas com milhares de lojas. Tem 4 entradas, uma em cada um dos extremos das ruas principais e é conhecido principalmente pela joalharia, cerâmica, tapetes, roupas típicas e imitações, caxemiras e especiarias.

Além do comércio, este complexo também possui duas mesquitas e uma fonte de água. O tecto do Bazar é muito bonito.

Foi construído em 1461 como um pequeno armazém até que chegou ao tamanho actual. Sofreu diversos incêndios e terramotos mas foi reconstruído novamente.

Os vendedores podem-se tornar aborrecidos e andam atrás de nós!

É importante negociar os preços! A mim foi-me pedido 140TL por um prato de cerâmica que comprei por 35TL! Tem que se ter lata para negociar e começar por oferecer o valor que achamos justo e não aceitar o primeiro valor que eles pedem.

Por vezes nem sequer os números em inglês sabem e a comunicação é feita por gestos, ou nas calculadoras que eles têm nas lojas.

It is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. Located in Eminonu it is a true labyrinth with more than 60 streets with thousands of stores. It has 4 entrances, one on each end of the main streets and is best known for jewelry, pottery, carpets, costumes, cashmeres and spices.

This complex also has two mosques and a water fountain. The Bazaar’s ceiling is very beautiful.

It was built in 1461 as a small store until it reached the current size. It suffered several fires and earthquakes but was rebuilt again.

The sellers can become boring and walk around us!

It is important to negotiate the prices! A guy asked me 140TL for a ceramic plate that I bought for 35TL! You have to negotiate, offering the value you think it is fair and don’t accept the first value they ask.

Sometimes they don’t even know the numbers in English and they write de numbers in a paper or in a calculator.

Estava tudo óptimo, relação qualidade preço muito boa.

Comi uma caçarola de frango.

We had dinner in Fuego restaurant, in Sultanahmet.

Everything was very good. The price was also great.

I ate a chicken cacerola.

Then, we went to Sultahnamet square at night - Blue Mosque (above) and Haghia Sophia (below).
